We recognise that, like all of our members, those who wish to join CHR are giving up their spare time.
We therefore try to make joining CHR as simple and straightforward as we possibly can.
Before you apply
Before you apply, we recommend that you have a look through this website
and familiarise yourself a bit more with the work of CHR.
In particular, we'd recommend that you look through the membership
FAQ's, which cover the application and induction processes in more
detail.
Applying
Applying is a simple three-step process:
- Download our application form (or request a copy in the post if you
prefer),
- Fill out the form and return it to us by post or email,
- We will contact you and arrange for you to visit the
station one evening.
Induction period
To enable all members to contribute as fully as possible, all new recruits undergo an initial period of
general training. This usually lasts for about six weeks, during which time a trainee can expect to be
introduced to all of the roles that our members take on.
Once you become a member
Following basic induction and training, all new members take on the role of either a Ward Rep. or a PA (unless
you want to specialise in a support/admin role) for a couple of months. At the end of this period, new members
remain in their role unless they indicate a desire to move into other areas such as presenting.
These specialised areas require extensive further training. For example, depending on experience, it can take
up to six months to train a new recruit to the level where they are ready to present their own programme.
